Asking for support for IL HB5373

We speak with patient advocate Kat H to garner support for HB5373, a legislative bill that has already passed unanimously in the Illinois House assembly and now appears in the Illinois Senate.

To support this legislation, please do the following:
(1) Call your state senator (yours can be found at www.openstates.org. Just go to the “resources” section, click on “open states,” & put your address in, or scroll down on the home page to the part that accepts an address. This will tell you your one state senator’s name, & if you click on it, their contact info. The sponsor, Senator Laura Fine, asked us to have people call their state senators and ask that they support and co-sponsor HB 5373.  Her spouse suffers from chronic pain.
(2) Call Kimberly Lightford (chair of the assignments committee–they can release the bill to committee, which we need by Friday) Her number is: 708-632-4500 or 217-782-8505. (3). To Dan Cunningham (vice-chair of assignments committee), asking him to please send the bill to committee, so it can pass. His number is: 773-445-8128 or 217-782-5145. If their voicemail boxes are full, please send them emails.
Their email addresses are: Lightford: [email protected] Cunningham: [email protected], or [email protected].gov (please send to both of his—he has 4 email addresses!)
*Script for Lightford &/or Cunningham:
Hi, my name is __________ and I’m calling about HB 5373, which is critical to Illinois residents’ healthcare, but the bill is currently stuck in assignments. This bill addresses a very serious, life-threatening issue, and the House passed it unanimously.  I’m concerned because the longer the delay is to pass this bill, the more Illinoisans will die. I’d like to ask Senator Lightford/Cunningham to consider releasing it to committee for a vote, supporting it, and potentially co-sponsoring it for this session.
