This is a piece I wrote originally for EM News, back before they had anything in archives online. It was picked up by many sources over the years and in a couple of places is required reading for medical students. Things like this take on rather a life of their own. I’m OK with that. Although older, it may be one of my most important bits of writing ever.

I have written for probably 15 years for the SC Baptist Courier. These days it’s mostly a monthly health tip in 500 words. This is from that magazine when it was more of a ‘theology meets medicine’ column for me.
My first real writing gig was with the Greenville News, and it was very formative because it was sometimes medical, sometimes family, sometimes humor or faith. It was wide open!
